I was vacuuming my car at my mom's house, when all of a sudden I turn around and there is an emu behind me. I kind of freaked out...YEP I SCREAMED and got inside my hot car! I thought it was an ostrich until we went home and found out what it was. (Thanks to wikipedia!) So, what did we learn out of this experience. When my husband came home, the girls were able to tell him that an emu is a ratite relative of the ostrich. The girls learned that ostriches can run about 60.6 mph, while an EMU can run up to 30 mph. There have only been 2 reported cases of EMU attacks on humans. We also learned that ostriches feathers are used for "feather dusters." LOL!
